Enter our “Brighten your home” contest for a chance to win $1,000 to spend on a home improvement project.
If you’re a homeowner, chances are there’s at least one home improvement project you’d like to tackle right now, if you had some available cash. It might be something major, such as replacing your roof, building a deck or finishing your basement. Or it might be a smaller project, such as repainting the rooms on the main floor, getting rid of your tired curtains or even installing a new doorbell.
So imagine someone just gave you $1,000 to spend on your home, and ask yourself: What would you use it for? Now hold that thought, because until October 7, 2013, Brighter Life is offering you a chance to win one of three $1,000 prizes, in our Brighten your home contest.
And to give you some inspiration on how you could spend it, we asked six popular Canadian bloggers how they’d spend $1,000 to brighten their homes:
Lindsay Stephenson, Little House Blog
If I had $1,000 to spend on our home, I’d fix our decking that has gone through years of neglect. The deck is full of splinters and rotting wood, and with a little one we want to make it a safe spot for family time.
Amrita Singh, Pretty Frugal Living
If I had $1,000 for my home, I would spend it on things to help me save! For example, I would invest in a programmable thermostat, buy rolls of draft-stopping tape for doors and windows, install a luxury, low-flow shower head and hire a professional to clean my dryer vent!
Jeremy Biberdorf, Modest Money
I’d stretch $1,000 as far as possible, with smaller purchases including fresh paint, new shower faucets, new lamps and a bunch of new plants. Having just bought a condo, we do have plenty to spend it on.
Tim Lam, Design Maze
If I had $1,000 to spend on my home, I would put up dynamite wallpaper at my entrance for a dramatic first impression, and in my hallway for an inspiring passage between the living space and the private retreat.
Wendy, Girl Meets Debt
With $1,000, the first thing I would do is rip up all the carpet in my condo and replace it with modern hardwood flooring and then convince my fiancé to paint a room or two pink!
Vanessa Francis, Décor happy
I would spend it on or put it towards a new king-size mattress. I have put off making a decision for far too long. It’s one of those things that you tend to ignore as you don’t see it, but I know a new, comfortable mattress would make a world of difference to how I sleep and function the next day!
